Panigale V4 Superleggera V4J

You know, there are regular production’s models, the base and the S versions, then you step up to something a bit more special like R or SP models. Want more? Well, Ducati offers various models under the “Ducati Speciale” branch, often regular bikes with some kind of different livery and maybe a couple of upgrades, sometimes born as collaborations with automotive brands, such as Bentley and Lamborghini where a different set of wheels and custom paiantjobs are usually the only differences, nothing too wild.

Want more? Fair enough… do you mind rocking a racing replica livery bike? In Borgo Panigale they had something for a limited number of you. Not a fan of these? Ok, fine… if by chance, you’re also a Lamborghini customer, you can have access to really limited editions like one of 63 Streetfighter V4 Lamborghini. Wait, what? Isn’t this special enough? Seems like we’re almost running out of options here, but…

There’s this thing, Ducati calls it the Unica Program: we’re now face to face with something HARD to have access to; under certain conditions, high profile customers and collectors are allowed to work directly with the design department and start tailoring bikes that are basically one-offs. Pretty unique, right? Nothing beats this. Unless.

Unless you’re introduced to something legendary, the peak of what Ducati has ever built as a street legal bike to this day, and it’s not even a “regular” Panigale V4 Superleggera: it’s the Superleggera V4J, one of its kind.
Just in case you missed it, “J” (jota in the Greek alphabet) is not a random choice, it’s the letter used in Sant’Agata Bolognese for their most insane cars’ specs, so it definitely belongs here too.

It’s a 173kg/234Hp unicorn, where carbon fiber, titanium, magnesium and highest level of craftsmanship meet. Back in 2020 our friend Dave spec’d it out to the very tiniest detail to match his Lamborghini SVJ, and we mean it: even the seat’s stitching has the same pattern of the hypercar’s upholstery and this is the only Ducati ever painted by Lamborghini itself.

Now, this is it, it’s what you can’t improve further by definition. Period.

*AEM Factory enters the chat: you thought. LOL.*

It started as a naive online joke: we posted on our Instagram a custom color sprocket kit matching the V4J livery because in those days the bike was all over the “Ducatigram”, we didn’t even tag the owner’s profile. Soon after, a message appeared in our DMs and the wheels started turning real quick.
Considering what kind of machine we are talking about, we were a bit hesitant because how dare you? Touching a 1/1 bike? And we went all in anyway, obviously!

We sent Dave a list of what we thought we could offer as upgrades and we realized that there was actually quite some room to do that, we left out only 3 items coming as billet aluminum from the factory already, the upper clamp, rearsets and fuel tank cap even if what we showed him was very temping; as a perfectionist, he didn’t even flinch, and after some back&forth emails, the project was defined. He immediately understood that our components are not just another bunch of colored aluminum pieces, we didn’t talk much about colors actually, that aspect was pretty easy: our goal was to seamlessly incorporate our parts on the amazing piece of art he already got delivered from Borgo Panigale. When we finally saw the pictures and videos of the bike with all our parts installed, we could proudly say we did a pretty good job!

Scroll down for some nice details!

1- A joke turned into a successful project: this is the lightest street legal Ducati ever made, here at AEM Factory we manufacture the lightest single-brand complete sprocket kit in the world, and the widest colors’ range, we guess it was meant to be! We included the gr.5 titanium nuts because they look too good to be left out.

2- On the opposite side, complementing the custom finish of the beautiful BST carbon fiber wheels and Brembo’s calipers, we added a blue centering cone and a gold nut.

3- Even in this carbon fiber heaven we still find the frame screws’ seats to be quite “rough”: that’s why we installed one of our titanium frame caps’ kit, here shown in blue. You can also spot our crankshaft inspection cover in Slate Grey, matching our sprocket carrier’s finish.

4- From this angle you can appreciate our adjustable aluminum foldable brake/clutch levers: as the installed grips were yellow, we chose Blue, Rhodium Silver and Carbon Black. A nice pair of black and blue bar-end weights are in plain sight, unfortunately we don’t have a proper picture of the blue steering stem nut, but it’s there, we promise!

5- It’s all about the pursuit of perfection: a front forks protection sliders kit and caliper spacers kit recall the front carbon wheel’s blue colored accents.

6- Just take a few seconds to admire these shapes before the final surprise…

It’s rewarding when this kind of things happen: Dave was so happy about the outcome on the V4J that we helped him later with his “daily commuter”, a Streetfighter V4 Lamborghini. But this is a whole another story for another time!
